Testing at Dundrod

One of the greatest racetracks in the world. Dundrod is a beautiful, subtle, challenging high speed roller coaster. I adore this track. We're in the Ferrari this time, it's a great car with great balance and power. Putting 29 gallons in it sure makes a difference though, and a few tweaks are needed to keep the car steady, particularly under braking. But even more important is getting the lines exactly right, and being steady.

Season 38: GT Cup: Round 3 at Stardust (30 laps)

This will be a depressingly short one.  Ready for the race Saturday morning, but could not connect to the server.  Turns out my ping was too high for the server, something that should not have been set.  I left a message on the official forums but the event had already started.  So, that was that.  Axel says they won't have a maximum ping again, but I may have to wake up earlier and test the live server before the event.  Shame, I had a good setup and could have won the race.  The rules do allow for two skipped events over the season, but it's a shame we've had to use one already.  Tris won again.

Testing in Vegas, Baby

To Stardust, which is a small technical track built behind a casino in 1966.  It's a mixture of chicanes and hairpins, not really my kind of thing but it's still a challenge.  The Lola I think is the better choice here, it's a bit more nimble that the Ferrari, and it's not a fast racetrack.  I'm using the setup from Goodwood but there's a bit more understeer here in the slower corners so I'm working on lowering and stiffening the car up a bit to deal with the roll.  The car is feeling better and better and I hope to be competitive.

Season 38: GT Cup: Round 2 at Goodwood 65 (39 laps)

So, to Goodwood then.  It's a really nicely flowing track that I don't have a lot of experience at.  After a lot of testing and adjustments I found the Lola has a nice balance and if you really drift it through a couple of the key corners it delivers a great lap time.  However in qualifying I couldn't quite wind the car up to it's maximum.  So fourth quickest behind Tristin, Alain and Axel.

After a steady start, the end of lap one brought some changes.  Tristin ran wide in the second last corner and had a screen freeze, and Axel ran wide through the chicane.  I had a moment there too and unfortunately clipped him into a spin - but I was able to continue behind Alain in the Ferrari.  Things settled down, and I found I could run behind Alain ok, with Policardi a few seconds behind.  I don't think you can actually pass on this track though.  Fortunately Alain made a mistake and ran slightly wide, and I took the lead.  Things were going well.  And then I lost my concentration.

The last part of Fordwater is difficult, but I had a rhythm going.  Lost my concentration just in the tricky part and instantly the car spun away and into the hedge.  Lost the lead but got going again only to make the same mistake again, this time getting stuck in the hedge.  Rules state you can do a reset without needing to do a stop and go so I got going again, albeit on cold tyres and a full tank, now too far behind first and second to catch them.  So I settled in to run the race to it's finish.  Really annoyed I dropped that, I could have won it.  Alain took the win just ahead of Policardi, so now he leads the championship.  Onto Vegas.
